Benefits Of An Emergency Kit For Disasters

Making sure that an individual is ready for a disaster or earthquake can be a little bit difficult for many people. That is when an individual should know about the reasons that they should have an emergency kit. Once they know about the reasons to have these they will see that it is going to be a great solution to having to turn to aid that may take a long time to reach them.

One positive is that these are going to have supplies inside of them that can assist in a disaster. These supplies that are present are typically going to be non-perishable items and ones that could easily be replaced if a person has to use them outside of the kit. However, a person should avoid using these items to guarantee that the item is complete if a problem does arise.

Another reason that an individual needs to have these is they are going to be set if anything happens in their house. When an individual is ready for a disaster they will have the comfort level of not having to worry about what happens.

Something an individual will realize is they will be able to stay at the house when a disaster strikes. For many people they will start to evacuate when a disaster is coming on them and they have warning, but for others if they have this type of kit they could be willing to stay inside of the home even with the potential of the disaster hitting their house.

From time to time a person will see that the items are going to include some form of food. By having the food that is not going to be ruined over time a person will not have to worry about running out of food to eat. Then they can see just how great this is going to be to help them live after a disaster strikes.

A person could also find that these are going to be a great way to have items in the event of an emergency. Many times a person thinks that they have enough to cope with a disaster, but what they may not realize is that they could easily run out of items. That is when they should know that these will typically include a bunch of items that they may have never considered having inside of their kits.

For many people when they are trying to prepare for a disaster they will see that it is going to be a challenge. That is when an individual should know about the reasons why they need to have an emergency kit. Once they know about these reasons they should notice that it is going to be easy to convince anyone to pick up the item at the store or Internet.

We have some emergency preparedness kits you should look into. Everyone should have at least one emergency kit in their home.

With an unknown future, one must be prepared. With the collapse of world currencies and the predilection of war around the corner is daunting; the future seems up for grabs.

Ponder the conditions in Europe prior to WW1. Europe was prosperous, it was an economic power. Germany was economically stable, culturally advanced and relatively pacifistic. It had a history of being less involved in war than any other nation in Europe. This era was about to embark and continue in great and noble advances. Nonetheless, complete chaos broke out.

Our era is not any different. Governments are growing more fascistic, bailing out banks, seizing sectors of the economy, bailing out politically connected companies formulating unsustainable debts loads for citizens. There is a danger of mass currency collapses, a breakdown of the markets and civil unrest could lead to civil war. Also the potentiality of beginning a war is a ploy used to another way out turning a different direction. Statist powerbrokers will find an excuse, false flags, provocations, etc to force a war.

There are environmental warnings as well. For instance, in case of an EMP (electromagnetic pulse) from a weaponized high-altitude electromagnetic pulse explosion, all money, gasoline, modern transportation will be lost. It’s bad news for pacemakers.

Non-nuclear electromagnetic pulse (NNEMP) from super solar flares from the sun and result in a geo-magnetic tempest are another probability. Computers would not work. Satellites would cease to function, no TV, radio, phones and any device, plane or car with computer chips in their system will not function. It will be every man for himself. Starvation, disease and random violence would likely claim millions of lives. A survival food supply is a fundamental necessity.

If we have a large non-nuclear electromagnetic pulse resulting from a super solar flare like the one that occurred back in 1859 (the 1859 Carrington event) , that would shut down the whole grid for quite a long time. Some estimate the damage between $1 trillion and $2 trillion in damages, and living could be terrible if in fact you were without electricity for any length of time. A Short Discourse on Grenades: Design and Function

Hand grenades have a similar design and functional features. Anyone who sees a grenade will get reminded of a fruit with a stem still connected. That a grenade resembles a fruit is not a coincidence. The term hand grenade was taken from “pomegranate”, a plant with a similarly formed fruit relative to the modern grenade. The fruit totally splinters or explodes when it becomes ripe.

The design of the grenade is not just done in a way so that it resembles the fruit it was named after. The small squares that are visible are the shrapnel. The hand grenade is small because it is rife with combustible matter. The top part is made up of security aspects that prevent untimely explosion. During a detonation, the squares are thrown out. On top of the blast, the sharp parts of the hand grenade are the most lethal part of the detonation.

The hand grenade is one of the most deadly weapons of war. They are used to hurt group of workers and prevent the passage of military trucks across a place. An anti-personnel hand grenade would come with more shrapnels to apportion massive injury to whoever gets hit. Sharpnels are small bits of metals that are the main ‘weapons’ of the hand grenade.

Anti-tank grenades are more explosive than anti-personnel ones. Anti tank hand grenades have more explosives than shrapnels. These devices are meant for shatterproof vehicles.

Let’s talk about the anatomy of a common grenade. There is usually a pin and a striker system. The fuse is not readily visible but it’s there. The pin keeps the instrument secure. A hand grenade is only detonated when the person manipulates the striker system and the pin. Even with no movement at all, the grenade may detonate if the safety catch is no longer in place. It goes without saying that there is a proper way to pull the pin and throw the hand grenade so that the user is not subjected to the risk of the hand grenade exploding earlier. It is most likely that the lever is already detached as soon as the pin is pulled. The safety catch is very vulnerable to pressure, which is why the pin should not be detached to keep the hand grenade secure.

Surviving Disaster – The Unthinkable: Who Survives When Disaster Strikes – and Why

The Unthinkable by Amanda Ripley undoubtedly added to my understanding of just how many people respond in disasters. The writing could be better, but overall it was an interesting book and a decent enough read.

Anytime I find a book that deals mostly with the psychology of catastrophe, violence, survival, or anything associated, I jump at the an opportunity to read it. Psychology and Sociology have always been a major interest for me. When I was a adolescent, I was intrigued by reading folks and their interactions. When I was a Pickup Artist, it centered around the interpersonal dynamics of courting. So when I fell into studying survival, the psychology of survival rapidly became an appreciable portion of what I examined. As my attention has centered in on Urban Survival, I concluded that a major portion of Urban Survival requires understanding how individuals around me, and just how I myself, would act in response.

Urban Survival is definitely the essential emphasis of my writing and a large focus of my life for the past number of years. The one thing we have a good amount of in Cities is people. People could be the thing that saves you or they may very well be the factor that kills you. What is more important – the way you react in a situation – could very well be just what exactly saves you or kills you.

Distinct from almost all the books I have found that are survival-centric, The Unthinkable talks about how people respond in catastrophes; both as individuals and as groups, without stepping into hysterics. Amanda Ripley doesn’t take a tone of fear. Instead, in a matter of fact way, she shows what truly occurs in different kinds of catastrophes.

Hollywood along with the mass media love to show us images of panic and the saddest actions of humanity during emergencies. What the author illustrates to us is the fact that inactivity is more frequently the case than panic. Most of the people go into “Brain Lock” as put by Ben Sherwood, author of The Survivors Club.

Ripley discusses the psychology involved in tragedy situations to explain who lives and who dies. She does this by evaluating real world situations and conducting a great number of interviews with individuals who’ve survived these incidents. Ripley does not delve into flights of fancy or conjecture. Rather she relies on recent historical data of how individuals conducted themselves.

The Unthinkable is written just like a lengthy article. This makes sense, once you realize author’s background – a writer for Time Magazine. The bulk of the book consists of interviews with survivors of mishaps. Through their retelling then her examination of the disaster, Ripley lays out the how and why of people’s actions and inaction inside the accounts.

Point Of Great Interest

If you’re searching for a “Disaster How-to Manual”, this is not it. Nonetheless, readers would find it really hard not to finish the book with an awareness of the mechanics involved in emergencies, and to gain practical knowledge which would hopefully help save their lives.

Amanda Ripley references evolutionary psychology a bunch in The Unthinkable. If the notion of anything to do with evolution does not jive, understand that the author’s repeated reference to evolutionary psychology and how it plays into crisis situations, will irritate you.

Most literature dealing with catastrophes leave me eager to pet a rifle, batten down the hatches of my rabbit hole, or run out to obtain more prepping supplies. This is among the very few books were I experienced a calm comprehension as opposed to a sense of urgency after reading through it.

Concluding Points

Even though decent, The Unthinkable is kind of a let down. Elements of the book very often will meander around without feeling like they are getting to a conclusion. More immediately useful, more accounts, a lot fewer deviations, and a lot more interviews with analysts – along with survivors – on the topic would’ve truly enhanced The Unthinkable. I would grant this book 3 out of 5 stars. Worthwhile reading, even though not astonishing.

Do You Have An Urban Disaster Plan?

Urban disasters are the things that happen to most people when you think of a disaster. These would include severe stow storms, flooding, hurricanes, and other things that sometimes displace or disrupt day to day life. These are not fun for the average person because there is no preparation for them. Being prepared is extremely easy.

The first thing that you will need is about a 30 day supply of food. While this might seem like quite a bit, it’s really not. Don’t go out and buy freeze dried meals or similar products. Instead focus on buying more of the items that you already eat and just rotating the stock.

Water is also important. It’s hard to store water, but it’s easy to get water purification devices. Keep a device that can purify at least 500 gallons of water on hand. This extra water can be found and purified from stored tap water, rain barrel water.

Also make sure that you have normal items that you need to survive. If you have any medications, it would be good if possible to be sure to have extra in case you can’t make it to the pharmacy which may not be open. Have extra items at home like blankets, first aid gear, and other things that can easily be stored until you really need them.

Have a way of not being bored either. Keep books you have read or board games that are fun to play on hand. With children be sure to have some things they enjoy doing that don’t require electricity.

Start today on your urban disaster plan so that you will always have some supplies that you can rely on in case you ever need them. Many of these items, like your food, you are going to purchase eventually anyway.
