Also you can keep your background to blurs and colours or simple mono toned images. This adds impact to your chosen creature. It is also easier to paint and create. This is like putting in a photo out of focus. If your background is kept dark your highlights and character will stand out much more. Have fun and see what method works best for you.

Well, it is a little complicated. Or it might seem so. We are talking talk about the feared Rule of the Third (also described as the Golden Section). But do not worry. It is not as complicated as many people thinks. If you are able to divide a square in nine equal parts, you will be safe.

Try to turn on your TV. Look for the newsreader at one of the news channels. Is he sitting in the middle of the picture? No, he is placed according to the Rule of the Third in either the left or the right third.

Long before the photography painters found out, that if the main subject was placed either one third or two third from the top and/or from the left, the painting would look more balanced.

Actually the entirely right place is not in the third part of the picture. There is a complicated mathematically rule to describe the Golden Section. But who cares. As long as the subject is placed about one third, if is fine enough. So if the viewer of your photos is sitting with a ruler, you should try showing them to others than mathematicians.

So try to place your main subject in the third parts, when you are photographing. It can be either horizontal or vertically; or it can be both.

It is really important to use the Rule of the Third when photographing the horizon. In many photos the horizon is placed in the middle of the picture. That gives an unbalanced photo, because it is divided into two parts.

Instead look at the frame. What is most interesting; the sky or the ground? If there are beautiful clouds in the sky, then this part should fill up two thirds of the picture. Are the subjects on the ground more interesting they should fill up the largest part.

Some cameras cannot figure out the make the subject sharp, if it is not in the middle. If that is the case, you should just place the subject in the middle of the frame, only press down the release half and the turn the camera subsequently. This way the camera knows that your subject is.

It is okay to break the Rule of the Thirds (like all other photographic rules). But you shall know why you are doing it and therefore only do it on purpose.

First off, Mona Lisa is not the name of the painting. At least it is not the name given to it by its painter, da Vinci.

He actually declined to give it a name upon completing it (the first time) in 1507, despite working on it (the first time) for over four years.

“Mona Lisa” (the name) was a creation of painter Giorgio Vasari in 1550. He surmised that the woman in the portrait was Lisa Gherardini, the young wife of a wealthy Florence silk merchant and called it “Madam Lisa” in Italian — or Mona Lisa.

You Are Mine, All Mine!

Strangely, Leonardo, a commercial artist who paid the bills by painting, decided to keep the Mona Lisa for himself. Whoever commissioned the painting, if anyone did, never received it.

Records show that da Vinci kept the painting with him everywhere he went and repainted it over and over until his death in 1519.

Great Art Continues On

After Leonardo’s death, the King of France bought the painting and it stayed in the royal family for more than 200 years. During the French Revolution the masterpiece was moved to its current home, The Louvre.

Except for a short time when Emperor Napoleon “borrowed” it — and hung it in his bedroom!

Due to the Japan economy’s crash and burn of the mid-1990′s BOTH paintings were repossessed and are currently owned by a bank.

One last interesting fact: Vincent Van Gogh has 3 painting in the top 10 most expensive paintings ever sold. The other two are Irises (which sold for $49 Million and is ranked #8) and a self portrait ($65 Million and #4.)
