The History Of Japanese Wardrobes
In Japanese society, what we in our siciety would class as a small wardrobe were classed as normal size wardrobes. Today in Japanese society the European wardrobes have sized down and become not only smaller but far less decorative as well as a lot less narrower. The type of wood used has also undergone a transformation predominantly in North America where the trend for certasin types of wood has also changed over the decades.
The data of the Japanese wardrobe is an interesting piece of information. One has to understand that the Japanaese are a fiercely traditional race of people. To understand this one has to examine their history of this time period, and look beyond the scenes, of what the world assumes to be Japanese life style. And look at The reasons for the changes and the effects the changes have had.
On travelling to Japan I was lucky enough to look at the changes of Japanese society. I managed to look beneath the surface and examined the life style not just of the present but also of the past. I started in Tokyo and soom found myself in more rural settings. Outside of the hub of the capital it is very easy to see the more traditional style of life and paramount to this is also the old traditions and the old traditional views of life. So if tradition is so important what caused the changes?
The Japanese have always traditionally been of a much smaller stature then the Europeans and this is traditionally down to the differences in diet. Part of the staple diet of the Japanese culture is and still continues to be white rice. The reasons for this is that the rice is grown in Japan and thought there is limited space for growing food the seas are used as a source with fishing being an important part of the society. The basic Japanese diet comprises fish and rice which includes a rice gruel for breakfast.
The change happened after the second world war, when the American army took to over seeing the country when they occupied it. Japan was gradually influenced by the American way, the children that were brought up 40 years ago, started to be larger simply because of the American love of hamburgers. The traditional small wardrobe which was designed around traditional small japanese robes, suddenly needed to be designed around larger peolple, who also wore bulkier wertern clothes. As a result the small pine wardrobes became standard western size pine wardrobes.
