Book Review: Motive and Audience

This struck me as interesting because I was unaware that a lot of people did not know how to write them. They are relatively easy and it all is dependent upon why you are writing the book review. Because writing a book review to try to get a person to avoid a book is different from trying to market a book which is different from simply stating your opinion of the book. All you really have to do is be aware of what your motive is and what audience you are writing to.

Your motive would be one of the three I previously mentioned such as your opinion, marketing the book, or discrediting the book. If you are simply stating your opinion, which are some of the most common book reviews, then all you have to do is clearly articulate your opinion. Pick out what parts of the book that you liked as well as part of the book that you thought could have been improved. Just be honest. That is one of the easiest reviews to write because there really is no ulterior motive but to display your feelings.

Now trying to market something, you have to make it as appealing as possible. So here you want to bring to the surface every aspect that worked well in the novel, along with your personal reflections (all positive of course), and anything that the book may possess that was a failure try to turn it positive. It’s really easy to explain what really worked in the novel and giving your opinion, such as the author pulls you into every scene, or you truly feel the pain of every character. When trying to turn some of the failures into something positive, just think about it creatively. If there are plot holes in the text mention there are certain challenges that the author asks you take or if the descriptions are really weighty, then mention the author forces you to pay attention to minute details.

If you are simply trying to discredit something, well this one is quite easy too. All you have to do is focus on the negative aspects of the novel. Basically: Everything the author did wrong. You expose every aspect with as much precision as possible, to weaken the writing. Compare the flaws or attempts to an author that you feel achieved the goals that the “bad author” tried to do, these small details add credibility to your argument. Someone is much more likely to believe you if you can support what you say. Also this type of “book reviewing” was done more in the eighteenth century when it was common to try to tear a novel to shreds in the most sophisticated way.

Just remember to know what your motive for writing your review is and who your audience is. When you begin to construct you review, constantly being aware of who you are writing for and why you are writing it, will begin to shape your review. And the more credibility that you can give to your arguments either for or against the book will make your review even stronger.

Choosing Between A Book And A Blog

Blog articles are usually really short. They have only 300-400 words which make them easy to read. Each blogger wants to be the best in their field and attracting as much online readers as possible is a must.

But if an article is short it doesn’t mean that it’s advantageous. Blog writers have to keep it very short and they can’t go deep into a subject.

This forces bloggers to stick to one field only. In spite of this, blog articles are still really random. For example, an aspiring gardener can’t find all the information from blogs because they have to go deep in understanding botanical concepts.

Search engine optimization is very important because every blogger wants its article to be found as easy as possible. But this means that a certain keyword is used multiple times and the blog article usually becomes just an addition of words. The information can’t be delivered properly in this way. And the saddest part is that more and more bloggers are going on this road.

Books have many advantages over blogs because they don’t need to use keywords repeatedly because they are immune to search engines. The writer can deliver the information very easy this way. It doesn’t matter how many words are used in a book so the subject can be treated deeply.

A book is also more special than a blog because it has certain warmth. When you read a book you can revive all those simple times when urban life wasn’t that stressful.

Books can be taken anywhere. You don’t have to worry about an internet connection or about finding a plug for your laptop. You don’t have to worry about ruining your eyes because books don’t send any harmful radiation.

Computers have become very accessible nowadays and more and more people prefer to do all the work with the help of the computer. But you have to try some things in the old fashioned way and you will see that they can be better.

Besides blogs, this author also regularly contributes articles on six figure yearly review and acne free in 3 days book.

Seventy Five Years of The Green Hornet

The number one movie at the box office this weekend (January 14 to 16, 2011) is The Green Hornet. It is directed by Michael Gondry and Stars Seth Rogen as Brett Reid, AKA the Green Hornet, and Jay Chou as his valet Kato, The screenplay was co-written by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and George W. Trendle.

The new Green Hornet film has been updated from the original concept that first appeared as a radio program seventy-five years ago. The Green Hornet radio drama series was broadcast live to air from January 31,1936 until 1952. Detroit radio station owner George W. Trendle had conceived the idea of the Green Hornet in 1935. He flushed out his idea of a masked vigilante crime fighter with the help of writer Fran Striker and radio drama director Jim Jewell.

The Green Hornet was Brett Reid, a wealthy playboy and newspaper publisher in an unnamed city. During the day he ran The Daily Sentinel, but at night he fought crime in the guise of the Green Hornet. He based his name on his car horn?s disturbing bee like noise. He had no super powers, but was a good fighter, a sharp shooter and had an arsenal of high-tech devices. These included a gun that shot knockout gas and one that delivered the Hornet?s Sting, electric shocks. And then there was The Black Beauty. Not a horse, but a powerful souped-up limousine.

Brett Reid also had an assistant by the name of Kato. While visiting the orient in his youthful playboy days, Brett happened to save the life this young Japanese man. Kato returned the favor by becoming Brett’s valet. Kato, conveniently, was a master of martial arts and a car expert. It was Kato who revamped Brett’s limo into the Black Beauty.

So by day Brett Reid is the law-abiding newspaper publisher and Kato his trusted valet. But at night Brett takes on his alter ego, The Green Hornet, and assisted by a masked Kato infiltrates dens of crime and fights the dark underworld

You may notice a similarity to another masked crime fighter and his sidekick. Remember the masked Lone Ranger and his Indian sidekick Tonto? It just happens that George W. Trendle also created The Lone Ranger, again with help from Fran Striker. This very popular radio program lasted from 1933 until 1954.

Did you know that the Lone Ranger was the great-uncle of the Green Hornet? Reid was the actual last name of the Lone Ranger and he was the uncle of Brett Reid’s father Dan.

In 1940, while the radio series was still in full swing, Helnet Comics produced the first Green Hornet comic books. After only 6 issues Harvey Comics took over and published 41 comics through to1949.

A one of Green Hornet titled Four Color, came out in 1953 by Dell Comics. Three issues of The Green Hornet were put out in 1967 by Gold Key Comics.

In 1989 NOW Comics released 14 issues of The Green Hornet. Then from 1991 through 1995 they published 40 Green Hornets. Ron Fortier wrote and Jeff Butler inked many of these comic books.

In 2010 Dynamite Entertainment came out with a new Green Hornet comic book series. This time the Green Hornet is Brett Reid Jr. When Brett Sr. is assassinated, Kato takes Brett Jr. to China where he is trained to become the new Green Hornet. This series is written by movie director Kevin Smith. It is a reworking of a Green Hornet screenplay he wrote, but that was never produced.

Seth Rogen’s new film The Green Hornet is the first original feature-length Green Hornet film. It takes place in modern day Los Angeles where playboy Brett Reid is publisher of The Daily Sentinel. After his father James Reid (not Dan as in the original) dies from a bee bite, he and his father?s mechanic, Kato, witness a crime and decide to fight crime by posing as criminals. Brett of course becomes The Green Hornet and is assisted by Kato and the Black Beauty car. The movie is another reincarnation of this sixty-five year old storyline.
