Valuable Facts About Keeping Your Kids From Telling Lies
Children are very comfortable lying to almost everything just to get them out of trouble. They are afraid that if they tell the truth about the thing they have done wrong, they would be punished. Parents should know that teaching your child that lying is bad and should not be done will have positive effects on the child. Of course, occasional lying is part of his development but it is another story if the child lies his way through everything.
You shouldn’t panic too much if your child begins keeping the truth from you. You should be bothered though if he lies all the time. To be able to stop the child from doing it you should first determine the root cause. Remember that kids tend to exaggerate everything and it will be obvious when they do it. You can also differentiate an adult’s lie from children’s lie so it wouldn’t be difficult for you to spot it.
Most of the time children like to copy adults. They like to mimic people especially their parents but there could be other reasons why a child lies.
A child is seeking constant attention and that could be the cause why he is lying, however, he could also be hiding something he has done wrong. Properly watching your child ensures that you will be able to handle him and his new found habit.
Stop asking the child if you already know the answer. Knowing that he broke something and still asking if he did it increases the chances for him to lie again. Remember, you are the parent. Tell it straight to him that he did it and conduct the proper punishment. Also make him realize that no matter how much he does it he wont get away easy.
Also, don’t get mad when he lies. it is part of a child’s developmental growth and if he doesn’t do it then something must be wrong with him. Even if he lies, you should still keep your calm. If you get angry all of a sudden that might be the cause of him lying to you. He might get scared that you’ll get mad so he would prefer to lie than be punished instead.
Assisting your child to get rid of this behavior is hard. It will require a lot of time for talks and observation for him to be able to understand that lying is wrong. Just keep in mind that once he gets past this stage he will be an honest little boy that you will be proud of.
