The Construction Skills (CITB) Site Safety Plus range of courses are recognised as being at the top of their field by those within the construction industry. SMSTS forms part of this well respected range of courses.

This 5 day course is designed for those in a current site manager role, in addition to other professionals who hold a supervisory post within the workforce. It is right for those wishing to formulate a more in depth legal, moral and social understanding of their job and also teaches delegates how to deal with on-site health and safety in accordance with up to date legislation.

Approximately ten thousand people attend the site management safety training scheme health and safety course each year. Construction professionals who aspire to acquire a site manager role in future, as well as present site managers who would like to review and develop their knowledge would be well suited to SMSTS training. The Construction Design and Management Regulations 2007 (CDM) requires that all employers of construction workers make sure that they are competent in a range of health and safety issues. The 5 day SMSTS Course is the highest level of training available to meet this requirement.

Individuals will develop their health and safety awareness throughout the course. At the conclusion of the 5 day training they will be totally conscious of and proficient in their ability to :

* Apply all health, safety, welfare and environmental legislation which affects them during their work

* Implement new guidance and industry best practice

* Communicate their duties and responsibilities with regards to health, safety, welfare and the environment

* Manage health & safety on site in accordance with current legal provisions, and within the context of their management or supervisory role

* Gain understanding of their responsibility and accountability for others welfare and health and safety on site

* Be aware of the fact that a site has to be safe in order to be productive, efficient and economical

An end of course exam must be taken and individuals will also be assessed through three core exercises before they can qualify for the SMSTS accreditation. On successful completion of the course, a certificate is issued by Construction Skills. Certificates are valid for 5 years.

This course should not be confused with the Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) course which is a 2 day training course aimed at site supervisors.
